NA passes Nepal Bar Council Bill



KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) meeting today unanimously passed the Bill on Nepal Bar Council (Second Amendment), 2081.

Earlier, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya had tabled the bill along with the report from the Legislation Management Committee seeking discussions on the bill.

Responding to the concerns raised by the lawmakers, Minister Chaurasiya promised to incorporate them in the bill.

Taking part in the discussions, lawmaker Padam Bahadur Pariyar suggested that the provision of developing curriculum and running classes by the Council itself should be reviewed.

He also said that there should be clarity on the fees to be taken by the legal practitioners.

Likewise, lawmaker Ganga Kumari Belbase said that provisions of penalty to the perpetrators should be arranged in the bill in case the legal practitioners and victims were misbehaved.

Earlier, the NA meeting unanimously approved the bill on Banking Offense and Punishment (Second Amendment), 2080 BS along with the message received from the House of Representatives (HoR).

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel had tabled the proposal seeking consideration on the bill received along with the message from the HoR.
