JHAPA: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has pledged that the government will not back down from the proposed East-West electric railway construction project.
At a press conference organized by Press Chautari Jhapa in Birtamod today, he stated that the government is preparing to advance the railway project by managing resources and distributing compensation. According to him, resource management is underway to provide compensation to those affected by the project.
“The government will not back down from the grand project of constructing the East-West railway,” Minister Dahal said, “Discussions have already been held with the Finance Ministry to ensure resources for the project.” He shared that the electric railway is considered the government’s ‘dream project’ and there is no possibility of backtracking from it.
For the project, the government acquired more than five thousand plots of land in Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari on June 6 and 9, 2020.
The landowners have repeatedly requested the government to release the acquired land with appropriate compensation if they are not provided with compensation for the acquired land.
For the railway route, the government has put 2,457 plots of land on halt in Jhapa, 1,638 plots in Morang, and 1,329 plots in Sunsari through the respective district land revenue offices.
Minister Dahal urged construction entrepreneurs to complete the work on time, stating that the construction of physical infrastructure in Jhapa is progressing rapidly.
He mentioned that the work on the Kanakai Bridge, which was halted on the Postal Highway, has also commenced.
“After the government prepared to cancel the contracts of companies that delayed the work, the construction company has started the work, and now we believe the work will gain momentum”, Minister Dahal said.
