Bodies of 5 Nepalis killed in India accident to be brought to Nepal today

KATHMANDU: Preparations are underway to bring the bodies of five Nepalis from Mahottari, Dhanusha, and Siraha, who died in a road accident in Madhubani, India, yesterday afternoon, back to Nepal today.

DSP Santulal Jaiswal of the District Police Office Mahottari, who has traveled to India to collect the bodies, confirmed the information.

The accident occurred when a vehicle carrying Nepali passengers (BR 32 PA 4661) returning from the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, collided near the Madhubani temple in Madapur, Sadar Thana area of Muzaffarpur, India.

The crash resulted in the deaths of five Nepalis, while four others were injured.

“The injured are receiving treatment at a local hospital. The incident occurred about 100 kilometers from the Mahottari border,” he said.

The deceased are identified as Balkrishna Jha, 60, from Jaleshwor Municipality-7 in Mahottari; his wife Indu Devi, 50; Mantaran Devi, 50, from Manarasishwa Municipality-2 in Mahottari; and Archana Jha, 30, from Ganguli in Nagarain Municipality, Dhanusha.

The jeep driver, who also died in the accident, is from Siraha, though his identity has not yet been disclosed. Police are working to gather more information.

The five deceased, including the driver, were from four different families.

Three family members had reserved the vehicle for a trip to the Mahakumbh to bathe together.

According to local sources, the accident occurred due to speeding while returning from the Kumbh Mela.
