Dengue infects 20 people in Chitwan in 15 days

CHITWAN: Dengue infection has been confirmed in 20 individuals who visited various hospitals in Chitwan for treatment since the beginning of Shrawan. These cases were reported within just 15 days of the current fiscal year.

According to Public Health Officer Anshu Pokharel of the Public Health Office, a total of 798 people were tested for dengue, with 20 testing positive. Of the infected, 14 are from Chitwan district, while six are from outside the district.

Among local cases, seven are from Bharatpur Metropolitan City, three from Khairhani Municipality, and two each from Ratnanagar and Kalika Municipality. Of the total infected, five are male and nine are female.

Dengue infections are commonly seen during the months of July, August, and September, as alternating rain and sunshine create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding.

The disease is transmitted through the bite of female Aedes mosquitoes, which typically bite during the early morning and evening, said Dinesh Rupakheti, head of the Public Health Office.

These mosquitoes breed in stagnant clean water collected in plastic containers, tin cans, drums, pots, old tires, water coolers, and open tanks. Symptoms of dengue include severe eye pain, headache, muscle and joint pain, rashes, bleeding, and high fever.

The most effective way to prevent dengue is by avoiding mosquito bites and eliminating breeding grounds. People are advised not to let water collect in discarded containers such as bottles, drums, tires, and other items that can hold water around their homes.
