Maoist Centre begins Standing Committee meeting to discuss internal unity and organization

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), convened its Standing Committee meeting at the party headquarters in Paris Danda on Friday.

According to party vice-chair and spokesperson Agni Sapkota, the meeting is set to deliberate on key agendas including organizational restructuring, division of responsibilities, and strengthening internal unity.

The meeting opened with party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ scheduled to brief members on the current political situation. Discussions will also focus on resuming the stalled Mid-Hill Highway campaign in Pokhara and fixing the date for the next Central Committee meeting.

Sapkota said that the role and expansion of the Socialist Front will also be discussed, as the party explores ways to make the alliance more active.

The Standing Committee is also expected to address the growing intra-party conflict led by deputy general secretary Janardan Sharma, whose differences with Chairman Prachanda have become increasingly public. The leadership aims to deliberate on these disputes and find ways to reinforce party unity.
