JANAKPUR: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inaugurated the construction of 64 major road projects in Madhesh Province, marking one of the largest infrastructure undertakings in the region to date.
Speaking at a special ceremony organized by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development in Janakpur, Prime Minister Oli digitally laid the foundation stones for all 64 projects simultaneously.
The event has been hailed by the Madhesh Province Government as a historic and proud moment, reflecting its ambition to strengthen transportation connectivity and boost economic growth.
According to the ministry, the projects will span all 64 provincial constituencies across eight districts of the province. Each constituency will receive a five-kilometer stretch of blacktopped road, totaling 320 kilometers. The project, estimated to cost Rs 12.7 billion, is scheduled for completion within three years.
Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Saroj Kumar Yadav confirmed that funding sources have been secured and contracts have already been awarded through the province’s infrastructure office. “With the foundation stones laid, construction work will now proceed at full speed,” he stated.
In the earlier phase of the road expansion plan, over 200 kilometers out of the planned 320 kilometers have already been completed. The remaining sections will now be expedited, the ministry said.
The roads will range from 5.5 to 7 meters in width. In addition to roads, one concrete bridge will be built in each of the 64 constituencies. The ministry also noted that environmentally friendly technologies and practices will be incorporated to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Minister Yadav said this initiative will connect previously isolated villages to the transport network, promote local trade, and help bring locally produced goods to market more efficiently.
