‘Real fight begins tomorrow’: Lingden reacts to Thapa’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has issued a strong warning following the arrest of RPP-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa during Sunday’s pro-monarchy rally.

Lingden declared that a decisive phase of the protest against the republic would begin on Monday.

“I’ve heard that Kamal Thapa and others have been arrested. I respectfully urge the Government of Nepal, the Home Minister, and the Inspector General of Police—bring Kamal Thapa here,” said Lingden while addressing demonstrators at Narayanchaur.

“If not, we will call on supporters from across the country. The real fight begins tomorrow. Instead of gathering in one place, we will rise up from fifty different locations.”

He further warned that if Thapa is not released, a complete shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley would be enforced starting Monday.

Lingden also cautioned that the monarchy would not be revived through scattered protests, but through a nationwide movement involving entire families.

“Enough of being told to go here or there. Will you arrest our leader? You’ll see our response from tomorrow,” he said.

He added that the current strategy of scattered demonstrations should not be mistaken for weakness. “This republic will fall sooner or later. To the Prime Minister and republicans, I say—if you’re wondering how a dethroned monarchy can return, we’ll show you.”
