WFD warns of rain, lightning and snowfall in hills and mountains



KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Weather Forecasting Division (WFD), has issued a weather alert predicting rainfall across all seven provinces from Sunday through Tuesday.

The Division has also issued a 24-hour warning, urging the public to take necessary precautions as the forecasted conditions may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, and both road and air transportation.

According to the bulletin released on Sunday morning, there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in several parts of all provinces, accompanied by thunder and lightning in many hilly areas, especially in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

One or two areas in the remaining provinces may also see similar weather. Additionally, light snowfall is expected in some high hilly and mountainous regions.

In Koshi Province today, light snowfall is likely in parts of the Himalayan region both in the afternoon and at night.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in various hilly and Terai areas during both periods.

Madhes Province is also likely to witness light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in the Terai region throughout the day and night.

Bagmati Province is expected to experience light snowfall in some Himalayan areas, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in both hilly and Terai regions during the afternoon and night.

Similar weather is predicted for Gandaki Province, where both the Himalayan and lowland regions could see rain and occasional snowfall.

In Lumbini Province, there may be light snowfall in some Himalayan areas during the afternoon and night, with light to moderate rainfall expected in the hilly region and isolated parts of the Terai.

Karnali Province is also forecast to have light snowfall in a few Himalayan areas and light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in hilly regions throughout the day and night.

Sudurpaschim Province is expected to receive light snowfall in the Himalayan region and light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in hilly areas, with a chance of rain in isolated Terai regions both during the afternoon and night.

The Department has requested the public to remain alert and make necessary preparations to minimize any potential impact from the weather conditions over the next few days.
