KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and MP Deepak Giri has called for Nepal to be declared a Hindu nation.
Speaking to the media at the Parliament building on Tuesday, MP Giri criticized the exclusion of public opinion supporting the establishment of a Hindu nation during the constitution-making process.
“The opinion of the people during the constitution-making process was sealed away. It should be opened. At that time, over 80 percent of the people expressed support for a Hindu nation,” he stated.
“No one was advocating for the removal of a Hindu nation. Many people around the world wanted to see Nepal as a Hindu nation. Even now, those records and opinions should be reviewed.”
This statement follows a similar declaration by another Nepali Congress MP, Dr. Shashank Koirala, who had previously expressed that Nepal should be a Hindu nation.
MP Giri, who is considered close to Koirala, also aligns with this view. Koirala is a former General Secretary of the Nepali Congress.
