Delayed road construction causes hardships for local residents

BANKE: The prolonged upgrading of the Paraspur-Gaughat road section has caused significant inconvenience and frustration among the local population.

The 14-km road, which serves as a vital transportation route for residents of Banke and Bardiya districts, has seen only 20% progress, even though the contract for the project is set to expire in just 10 days.

The federal government has allocated Rs 140 million for the road’s upgrade.

Despite repeated requests from the Road Division Office in Nepalgunj, the contractor has failed to complete the work on time.

Engineer Amir Subedi from the Road Division Office confirmed the slow progress, expressing concern over the delay.

The Paraspur-Gaughat road is a critical route for residents of Janaki, Khajura, Bardiya Badhaiyatal, and Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.

The contract for the road’s upgrading was awarded last year. “We have initiated legal action against the contractor due to the dismal progress,” Subedi stated.

In response to the delays, local residents have staged protests, urging both the people’s representatives and the Road Division Office to expedite the construction.

The road is one of the most heavily used in the area, making its completion a top priority for the community.
