KATHMANDU: The government has prohibited individuals who have not obtained travel permits to carry arms, despite having legal permissions, from taking them out while outside homes.
Speaking at a press conference held at Singha Durbar on Friday to make the decisions of the cabinet public, government spokesperson Rekha Sharma stated that those who have obtained permissions to hold arms as per prevailing laws but not travel permits are prohibited from leaving their homes with them.
In another decision, the spokesperson informed that the government has decided to authorize the Ministry of Industry to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding seismic research collaboration between Nepal and China.
She shared that the government has also decided to appoint Tribhuvan University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Kesharjang Baral as a member of the University Grants Commission.
Similarly, Sharma informed about the formation of a committee under the coordination of former Secretary Sharada Prasad Trital to conduct a study, research, evaluation, and cost assessment of the land within various locations under Tribhuvan University’s name, starting with the land located within the Kathmandu Valley.
During the press conference, spokesperson Sharma clarified that despite the government’s initiation to provide cricket player Sandeep Lamichhane with a visa to play in the World Cup in United States of America, no visa has been granted yet.
She stated that the decision to grant or deny the visa is entirely within the jurisdiction of the embassy.
Sharma also clearly addressed the ongoing issue regarding the inability to increase the salary of employees due to the current economic condition of the country.
Furthermore, Sharma mentioned Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s acknowledgment of the situation where there hasn’t been an overwhelming majority of votes of confidence in the parliament, indicating that the government is not facing an imminent threat.
