Mayor Balen calls for unity to beautify New Road

KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balen Shah has issued a rallying cry for citizens to join hands in enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of New Road.

Taking to social media, Balen addressed concerns surrounding the construction of a sidewalk along New Road, emphasizing the necessity to elevate the area’s infrastructure.

He raised a question: How can the addition of a sidewalk narrow the road when it accommodated parking spaces previously without issue?

Balen pointed out the irony in the opposition, noting that those who once advocated for on-street parking are now contesting the expansion of the sidewalk by a mere three feet.

He emphasized that clearing this space for pedestrians would not constrict the roadway, contrary to claims.

Furthermore, Balen urged scrutiny of the criteria set forth by the Depart of Road, particularly regarding the necessity of sidewalks along streets with significant pedestrian traffic.

In a call to action, he cautioned against obstructing progress for personal gain, urging accountability for those hindering development.

He concluded with a plea for unity, underscoring the collective responsibility to transform New Road into a more sophisticated and orderly thoroughfare amidst evolving times.
