Home Minister Lamichhane and Dharan Mayor Harka meet to address drug abuse



KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane and Dharan Sub-Metropolis Mayor Harka Sampang Rai convened in Singha Durbar to discuss strategies for combating drug abuse in Dharan.

Sources close to Home Minister Lamichhane revealed that he expressed his commitment to tackling the issue, pointing out the escalating problem of drug addiction nationwide.

“Nepal is grappling with a significant challenge due to the increasing prevalence of drug addiction. The situation in Dharan is particularly alarming,” he remarked during the deliberations. “It’s imperative for us to launch a dedicated campaign, rallying all levels of government for concerted action.”

Lamichhane called for Mayor Harka’s collaboration in the fight against drug abuse.

In response, Mayor Harka shared details of his ongoing initiative known as “Reform Friday,” conducted every Friday in Dharan.

“For 96 weeks now, we’ve been unwavering in our efforts. ‘Reform Friday’ serves as a platform to raise awareness about drug addiction, and it’s yielding positive results,” Harka affirmed.
