NC alleges PM and IGP of trying to give clean chit to Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, has accused Prime Minister and Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) of attempting to give a ‘clean chit’ to Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

During a session at the House of Representatives on Sunday, Nepali Congress lawmaker Sanjay Kumar Gautam said that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and the IGP tried to exonerate Lamichhane, likening their actions to those of judges or kings issuing orders.

“The Prime Minister’s attempt to exonerate resembles a judge’s ruling or a king’s decree,” MP Gautam remarked. “This raises serious concerns about the impartiality of our inquiries.”

Gautam emphasized that such statements from the Prime Minister and the IGP have cast doubts on the integrity of the investigation.

“The developments have instigated doubt. While the Prime Minister pledges to investigate high-profile individuals, is it sufficient to focus solely on minor figures?” Gautam questioned.

He further urged the government to establish a parliamentary committee promptly to investigate the matter thoroughly and reach a conclusive decision.
