PM Oli extends festive greetings on Tamu Lhosar
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes to the Gurung community and all Nepalis celebrating Tamu Lhosar, the main festival of the Gurung people.
Taking to social media, Prime Minister Oli shared a message of cultural pride and unity.
“When I think of Tamu Lhosar, I am reminded of Gurung women wearing headscarves, velvet choli, ghalek, patuki, and chhitko gunyu and dancing Ghatu, Sorathi, and Kauda, and men wearing bhangro over their bhoto and patuki with kashk tied around their backs,” he wrote on Facebook.
Former US President Jimmy Carter dies at 100
Former President Jimmy Carter, a peanut farmer and Georgia state governor before becoming president, has died at the age of 100.
When Carter took the oath of office as president of the United States on January 20, 1977, he promised a “government as good as its people.”
He presided over four turbulent years. Rising inflation and growing unemployment marred the domestic priorities of his administration.
Prachanda accuses Oli of deceit during speech in Jhapa
CPN (Maoist Center) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of being consumed by deceit and manipulation.
Speaking at a party-organized mass rally in Gauriganj, Jhapa, on Monday, Prachanda stated that Oli’s mind is focused solely on dishonesty.
“This is the place of the current Prime Minister. A person known for deceit, treachery, dishonesty, and betrayal. I must say, I have probably arrived at the place of someone who embodies these traits. There seems to be nothing else in his mind,” said Prachanda.
Wild elephant disrupts closing ceremony of Elephant Festival in Sauraha
A wild elephant caused chaos at the ongoing Elephant Festival in Sauraha, Chitwan, on Monday, scattering organizers and participants.
The elephant, identified as Makuna, entered the festival venue during the closing ceremony at Baghmara Community Forest.
Efforts are underway to drive the elephant away, but its repeated return has left both the organizers and guests on edge.
Bamdev Gautam hints at joining Unified Socialist after talks with Madhav Nepal
Former vice-chair of the CPN-UML, Bamdev Gautam, has expressed the possibility of joining the CPN (Unified Socialist) after a meeting with party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Speaking after the discussion at the Unified Socialist’s central office in Aloknagar on Monday, Gautam described the talks as a revival of old memories.
“Old memories were revived, and we discussed moving toward a new horizon. That was the focus for today,” said Gautam while leaving the party office.
Police seal Baraha Savings and Loan Cooperative in Dharan for embezzling over Rs 14 billion
The Baraha Savings and Loan Cooperative Society in Dharan has been locked down by police after accusations of embezzling billions of rupees from savers.
The cooperative’s office was sealed, and nine individuals associated with the organization have been arrested over a span of three days.
Those arrested include board members, accountants, and loan committee members. Among them are Bishnu Tamrakar, Apna Shrestha, Asmita Bhandari, Sudin Lwagun, Sher Bahadur Mahat Chhetri, Sarita Kalikote, Ravi Portel, and Jatan Maya Bishwakarma.
Fire destroys seven houses in Rautahat
A massive fire broke out in Paswan Tole of Rajdevi Municipality-5, Rautahat, last night, completely destroying seven houses.
The fire, which originated from a smudge fire used to repel mosquitoes, quickly spread to neighboring homes.
The incident started when the thatched house of Jagatnath Paswan in Patahi caught fire from the nearby smudge fire.
Leadership age cap set at 32 for ANNISU (Revolutionary)
The student wing affiliated with the Maoist Center, All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (ANNISU Revolutionary), has officially decided to impose an age limit for its leadership selection.
Following a close vote, 900 members supported implementing an age cap, while 879 voted to keep it open.
As per the final decision, individuals above 32 years of age will no longer be eligible to contest for leadership positions in the student union.
The decision has sparked debates within the organization, with differing opinions on whether an age limit aligns with the union’s principles and operational effectiveness.
