KATHMANDU: The Balachaturdashi festival is being observed across the country today in memory of departed loved ones.

Devotees have gathered at Shiva temples, including the Pashupatinath Temple, since last night to participate in the observances.

During the night, they light lamps in honor of their deceased family members and keep a vigil.

In the early hours of the morning, devotees sow the Satbeej (seven types of grains) around the temple grounds.

The festival begins on the night of the 13th day of the waning moon in the month of Mangsir and concludes today with the spreading of Satbeej at the temples of Hindu god Shiva.

A large number of devotees have gathered at the Pashupatinath Temple for the occasion

Those unable to travel to the main temple have visited nearby Shiva temples in their local areas to observe the festival.
