Kaag Tihar being observed today

KATHMANDU: Today marks Kaag Tihar, the first day of the five-day Tihar festival.

This day is celebrated by offering food to crows, which are regarded as the messengers of Yamaraj, the Hindu god of death and justice.

It is believed that feeding rice pudding to crows today will convey a positive message to Yamaraj.

A special worship service is being held at the Kageshwari Mahadev Temple in Kageshwari Manohara Municipality in honor of the occasion.

Additionally, special rituals for crows are conducted at the Kageshwari Temple located in Hanumandhoka.

The Tihar festival is rooted in the belief that Yamaraj punishes those who commit evil deeds while Dharmaraj protects those who do good.

Yesterday (Tuesday), the festival of Dhanteras, which involves buying jewelry and copper utensils to please Goddess Lakshmi, was also celebrated.
