Pokhara Gold Cup football tournament to take place in Portugal



LISBON: The Pokhara Gold Cup football tournament is set to take place in Portugal.

The seven-a-side competition will commence on September 8, organized by the Pokhara Football Club (Pokhara FC) Portugal.

The event is being held to celebrate the upcoming festivals of Dashain and Tihar, according to Asbin Jung Thakuri, president of the club.

Additionally, the tournament aims to foster mutual support, cooperation, and camaraderie among the Nepali community in Europe.

Sports coordinator Prajesh Gurung announced that over 20 teams are expected to participate in the tournament, which will be hosted at the Vitória Clube de Lisboa in Lisbon, the coastal capital of Portugal.

The winning team will receive €3,000 in cash along with the title, while the runner-up will be awarded €1,500, a trophy, a medal, and a certificate.

Gurung also mentioned that funds raised through the event will be used to support Nepalis in distress in Portugal and other EU countries.
