KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada has called for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon Chinese Ambassador Chen Song for an explanation regarding his “inappropriate comments” about the search for missing passengers and buses in the Simaltal accident.
Khatiwada’s request comes after Ambassador Chen made “disparaging remarks” about the search efforts on social media.
An Indian team was also involved in the search for the missing bus and passengers.
Despite their efforts, the search proved unsuccessful, and further complications arose when a magnet used in the search was lost.
In response, Ambassador Chen made derogatory comments on Twitter, criticizing the search efforts.
MP Khatiwada condemned these remarks, stating, “One of His Excellency’s comments has disregarded diplomatic dignity and the code of conduct. It is unacceptable to belittle the search operation as a ‘magnet search.’ At times of emergency, we expect support and humanitarian sympathy, not mockery.”
In addition, during a House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Loktanrtrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) lawmaker Sarbendra Nath Shukla also expressed disapproval of the Chinese ambassador’s comments, which he believes undermine the investigation led by the Nepal government.
