Birendra, overwhelmed by debt, plots Ex-Minister Yadav’s murder for land ownership

KATHMANDU: The District Police Office of Sarlahi has arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of former State Minister Ram Chandra Raya Yadav, a leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Yadav, 81, was found dead at his farmhouse in Chandrapur Rural Municipality-1 on Shrawan 7.

The murder is believed to have been carried out by his assistant, Ramaujain Raya, under the influence of Birendra Raya.

Birendra, 46, from Kabilasi Municipality-2, currently residing in Ratanpur of Chandrapur Rural Municipality-1, has been identified as the mastermind behind the murder.

Motivated by a land dispute, Birendra allegedly orchestrated the crime to claim ownership of Yadav’s property.

Unable to prove his claim to the land, Birendra sought evidence, including the land map, to facilitate the transfer of ownership.

He promised Ramaujain Rs 200,000 and a farmhouse as compensation for the murder.

The police investigation reveals that Ramaujain, 25, employed as an assistant at Yadav’s house, carried out the murder using a sharp weapon.

Both suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody following a 10-day remand granted by the District Court.

Birendra’s financial distress, including a debt of Rs 7.2 million, is believed to have been a significant factor in the crime.

A six-member team from the Central Investigation Bureau, Madhesh Province Police Office, and District Police Office has been assigned to investigate the case further.
