KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama, and the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), is seeking a vote of confidence today.

The NC has issued a whip to its lawmakers in the province to support CM Lama in the upcoming provincial assembly meeting, scheduled to commence at 3 PM.

Lama requires the support of at least 56 of the 110 assembly members to maintain his position.

With backing from both the Nepali Congress and the UML, CM Lama is anticipated to secure the confidence vote.

The assembly includes 21 members from the CPN (Maoist Center), 13 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (including the Speaker), seven from the CPN (Unified Socialist), three from the Nepal Workers Peasants Party, and two from Hamro Nepali Party.

CM Lama was appointed on Tuesday by Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma, following the resignation of former Chief Minister Shalikram Jamakattel.

He garnered support from 64 lawmakers from the NC and the CPN-UML to secure his appointment.
