Phanindra Devkota re-appointed Energy Minister in Gandaki

KATHMANDU: Phanindra Devkota, a lawmaker from the Nepal Samajbadi Party, has been re-appointed as the Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Drinking Water in Gandaki Province today.

Devkota made a comeback to the Gandaki Provincial Assembly on Friday after winning a Supreme Court case that dismissed the action taken against him.

Chief Minister Surendra Pandey appointed Devkota to his ministerial position on Sunday.

Earlier, Devkota had challenged the decision of the CPN (Maoist Center) to take action against him at the Supreme Court.

He filed a writ petition, claiming the Maoist Center’s decision was unconstitutional.

Despite instructions from the Maoist parliamentary party, Devkota supported CM Pandey of the Nepali Congress (NC) with his vote of confidence.

Following this move, the Maoist Center took action against him, resulting in the loss of his MP status.
