Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel has announced a cabinet reshuffle, incorporating CPN-UML lawmaker Jagannath Thapaliya into the provincial cabinet. On the recommendation of Chief Minister Jamkattel, Bagmati Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma has appointed Thapaliya to the cabinet. Thapaliya, who is serving as a minister for the second time in the second term of the Provincial Assembly, has been assigned the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that he personally prevented the CPN-Maoist Center from becoming the Chief Minister in Koshi Province. Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Saturday, he revealed that even after NC agreed to support the candidacy of the Maoist Center he intervened to stop it. Dr. Koirala openly admitted that he had not allowed the Maoist Center to become Chief Minister in any condition in Koshi.
Top leaders including PM Dahal, UML Chair Oli and NC President Deuba meet in Baluwatar
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ convened discussions with CPN-UML Chair KP Oli and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. Prime Minister Dahal extended invitations to the coalition partner UML Chair Oli and the leader of the main opposition party NC President Deuba to deliberate on matters concerning the peace process and the Constitutional Council. Previously, the Prime Minister had engaged in separate discussions with Oli and Deuba.
Maoist Center will support UML in Ilam by-elections: KP Oli
CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has affirmed that the CPN-Maoist Center will back his party in the forthcoming by-elections in Ilam-2. Addressing a gathering organized by the UML in Kathmandu on Saturday, Chairperson Oli expressed certainty that the Maoist Center is ready to lend support to the UML in the crucial moments leading up to the by-elections. “I am confident – until the very end, the Maoist Center will stand with us. Their aim is to prevent the Nepali Congress from winning,” he declared.
PM Dahal vows comprehensive development initiatives for Mahottari district
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reiterated his commitment to the continuous efforts for the overall development of Mahottari district and pledged to sustain this momentum in the future. In a meeting with parliamentarians, people’s representatives, political party representatives, and members of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, PM Dahal expressed his dedication to the development of Mahottari. During the meeting, Dahal assured that Mahottari would be prioritized in the formulation of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
RSP unveils Milan Limbu as candidate for Ilam-2 by-election
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has revealed its contender for the upcoming by-election in Ilam-2. During a ceremony held today in Ilam, the party formally announced Milan Limbu as its candidate for the Ilam-2 constituency. RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane presented Limbu with the party’s election symbol, marking the official commencement of Limbu’s candidacy.

Ireland Wolves clinched the T20 series title by defeating Nepal ‘A’ by 40 runs in a thrilling match held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground on Saturday. UML to join Bagmati provincial govt, Thapaliya to assume Finance Minister role
The CPN-UML is poised to become a part of the Bagmati provincial government, with Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkatel announcing an extension of the Cabinet today. Jagannath Thapaliya has been appointed as the Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning. Thapaliya is expected to be sworn in later this afternoon at 5 PM.
Tribhuvan University to offer question papers in Nepali and English
Tribhuvan University (TU) has declared its intention to prepare question papers for all Bachelor’s level faculties in both English and Nepali languages. This decision will come into effect starting with the upcoming examinations for first-year students and will be gradually extended to second, third, and fourth-year examinations. Previously, question papers were predominantly prepared in English, with the exception of Nepali subjects.
These are candidates announced for Ilam-2 by-election
Political parties have begun unveiling their candidates for the upcoming by-election in Ilam-2, set for April 27. As of now, CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), CPN (Unified Socialist), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have declared their candidates, with CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepali Congress expected to follow suit shortly.
Trishuli Taxi Update: Deceased victims identified
The identities of all five individuals who tragically lost their lives after a taxi plunged into the Trishuli river this morning have been confirmed. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 7:15 AM near the Simaldhara area of Ichchha Kamana Rural Municipality-5 along the Prithvi Highway. According to police reports, the taxi (Ba 2 Ja 4196), which was en route from Kathmandu to Gorkha, veered off the road and fell approximately 80 meters into the river.
One billion meals wasted in households worldwide each day: UNEP
A recent report released by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) reveals that at least one billion meals are wasted in households across the world every day, amounting to an average of 79kg of food waste per person annually. The Food Waste Index Report 2024, unveiled by UNEP on Wednesday, highlights that this food waste, including edible items, equates to 1.3 meals per day for individuals suffering from hunger globally. According to the report, household food waste in Nepal averages 93kg per capita annually, while it stands at 55kg for India and 76kg for China.
