Earthquake jolts Kalikot again
An earthquake struck Kalikot today (Sunday), marking the second tremor in the area within a few days.
According to the National Seismological and Research Center, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake hit Kalikot at 5:09 AM this morning, with its epicenter located in Odanaku.
Earlier, on Friday night, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake had also struck Kalikot.
Govt issues ordinance to regulate cooperatives
The government has issued an ordinance to amend various Nepalese Acts related to cooperatives, 2081.
President Ram Chandra Poudel issued the ordinance on Sunday, following a recommendation by the Council of Ministers meeting held last Tuesday.
The ordinance aims to regulate cooperatives and ensure the return of funds to savers.
Nepal bags first gold medal in Karate
Nepal has won the gold medal in the International Open Karate Championship held in Pune of Maharashtra, India.
Nepal won the first gold medal in the age-group ‘kata’ performance.
Nepali karate player Siddhartha Rana won the gold medal in the age group of 10 years.
Gold price drops by Rs 500 per tola today
The price of gold, which increased by Rs 600 per tola on Thursday and Rs 400 per tola on Friday, have dropped by Rs 500 per tola today.
According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation, the price of gold has decreased to Rs 150,200 per tola today, down from Rs 150,700 last Friday.
Similarly, the price of silver has also fallen. Silver is now priced at Rs 1,790 per tola, a decrease of Rs 25 from last Friday’s price of Rs 1,815.
Purna Bahadur Nepali endorsed as Nepal’s ambassador to Sri Lanka
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament has unanimously endorsed Purna Bahadur Nepali as Nepal’s ambassador to Sri Lanka.
In a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Sunday, the committee conducted a hearing for Nepali, who was recommended by the Cabinet on Mangsir 6.
Committee Chair Ishwari Devi Neupane confirmed the unanimous approval and acknowledged the government’s positive response to her earlier call for inclusive ambassadorial appointments.
NID officer implicated in the murder of police aide in Bara
A National Investigation Department (NID) officer has been implicated in the murder of Rajkumar Rumba, a police aide, in a case driven by personal grudges and robbery.
The District Police Office in Bara revealed the involvement after arresting three suspects in connection with the case.
Those detained include 27-year-old Purushottam Kumar Das, owner of Jayma Engineering Workshop in Jitpur Simara-19, Indrajit Kumar Chauhan, and Shrikant Tiwari, who is an NID officer stationed at the Simara Airport Office.
Oli suspends Binda, welcomes Bibha into UML
The ruling CPN-UML suspended standing committee member Dr. Binda Pandey and central committee member Usha Kiran Timalsina, while simultaneously inducting Bibha Basnet, winner of the international beauty pageant “Mrs. Heritage International 2024,” into the party.
On the party’s website, the UML listed Pandey and Timalsina, suspended during a secretariat meeting on December 26, alongside Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who is currently imprisoned for his involvement in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.
Dr. Pandey has responded to the suspension by committing to writing a new book during her six-month hiatus.
Corruption and money laundering charges filed against Nagarjun Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet
Nagarjun Municipality Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet has been charged with corruption and money laundering by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
The charges, filed at the Special Court, involve alleged misappropriation of 9.22 crore rupees in corruption and 13.12 crore rupees through money laundering activities.
The CIAA’s investigation revealed that Basnet misused his position to acquire land and money illegally from Raju Prasad Kandel, chair of Padma Merchant Company Pvt. Ltd. and Padma Colony Pvt. Ltd.
