KATHMANDU: The Home Ministry has issued a warning about taking action against individuals who make hateful statements on social media.
The government highlighted concerns over expressions that undermine social harmony and public peace being spread online.
In a statement released on Friday, the Home Ministry emphasized that it is closely monitoring individuals who have recently posted hateful or misleading remarks on social media, which are illegal and disruptive to societal peace and order.
The statement, signed by the Ministry’s Joint Secretary and Spokesperson, Rishi Ram Tiwari, reads, “Such activities, which are prohibited and punishable by law, will be subject to legal action, regardless of where they occur. We urge all individuals to refrain from engaging in such behavior.”
While the Ministry affirms its respect for citizens’ right to freedom of expression, it reminded the public that spreading hate, inciting violence, or promoting activities that harm inter-caste, inter-religious, or community relations—along with any conduct that goes against public morality—are punishable offenses.
