Miss Malta’s team welcomed in Kathmandu with traditional Dhaka Topi and music

KATHMANDU: Miss Malta, Cherise Spiteri, arrived in Nepal on Monday for a visit that promises to highlight the beauty of the country.

She landed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on a Turkish Airlines flight, and was warmly welcomed with traditional Nepali hospitality, including the presentation of a ‘dhaka topi’ (traditional hat) and panchebaja (musical ensemble).

The welcoming ceremony was organized under the leadership of the Nepal Tourism Board and the NRNA Malta.

Prakash Bhandari, an activist of NRNA and Nepal’s tourism ambassador to Malta, expressed the significance of Miss Malta’s visit, noting that it is expected to greatly contribute to the promotion of Nepali tourism.

Bhandari highlighted the potential impact of the visit on promoting Nepal as a travel destination in Europe, especially with the increasing number of Nepali workers in Malta.

The team, which includes Kirsten Borg, Daniel Zammit, Alexia Katzer, and Carolina Ciubotaru, will be involved in various social activities with local non-governmental organizations during their stay.

Additionally, Miss Malta’s team is scheduled to participate in the grand finale of Miss Nepal.

According to Som Sapkota, an activist of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), the team will also visit tourist areas such as Chitwan and work on a documentary to introduce Nepal to a broader audience.

Currently, the number of tourists traveling from Malta to Nepal is relatively low.

Stakeholders believe that effective publicity and such high-profile visits could significantly boost tourist numbers from Malta.
