KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the writ petition filed against the formation of the Koshi Provincial government on Wednesday.

Outgoing Chief Minister (CM) Kedar Karki filed the petition, claiming that the appointment of Hikmat Karki of the CPN-UML to the position of Chief Minister was unconstitutional.

In his petition, Karki has demanded that the court remove the new CM from office and reinstate him.

Earlier, during a previous hearing, the court had requested responses from the defendant on May 10 and documentation of the CM’s appointment process on May 22.

Province Chief Parshuram Khapung had removed Kedar Karki from the post after he failed to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days following the withdrawal of support by UML lawmakers, as required by the constitution.

Chief Khapung subsequently appointed Hikmat Karki to the position.
