SC dismisses writ filed against appointment of Gandaki CM Adhikari
The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the writ petition filed against the appointment of Gandaki Chief Minister Khagraj Adhikari, paving the way for the expansion of the government. The division bench of Supreme Court Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Saranga Subedi conducted the hearing on the writ and dismissed it. Claiming that the inclusion of Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital’s signature in the list to show majority lawmakers for the post of Chief Minister was against the Constitution, the main opposition party Nepali Congress had reached the SC seeking the dismissal of Chief Minister Adhikari.
SC orders publisher and executive editor of Sidhakura.com for statement
The Supreme Court has directed Yuvaraj Kandel, the publisher of ‘Siddhakura.com,’ to provide a statement. The order was issued on Monday, summoning Kandel and Executive Editor Navin Dhungana to present their statements. The division bench, comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi and Tek Prasad Dhungana, directed the publisher and Executive Editor to appear for their statements.
Goals of 16th Plan have been determined as per nation’s needs: NPC Vice Chair
Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha, has said that the goals and programs of the 16th Plan have been determined by identifying the needs of the country. Addressing the ‘Harnessing Green Finance for Sustainable Investment’ session held on the second day of the Third Investment Summit here today, he said that equal priority has been given to the development and expansion of the energy sector, which is the main basis of economic prosperity.
UML’s Daman Bhandari secures victory in Bajhang-1 by-election
Daman Bhandari, representing the CPN-UML, emerges victorious in the Bajhang-1 by-election securing 11,612 votes. Bhandari clinched the win with a narrow margin, with his closest rival being Abhishek Singh of the Nepali Congress. The final vote count reveals a margin of 266 votes between Bhandari and Singh, highlighting the tightly contested nature of the electoral race.
Investment Summit achieves grand success: Minister Pun
Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has said the third Nepal Investment Summit-2024 has been a grand success. The Minister said this in his address to a sideline meeting with representatives from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and ambassadors of various countries to Nepal held earlier today under the Summit. He said the government has been encouraged by the enthusiastic participation of development partners in the meeting and such participation made the Summit a grand success.
Gold prices down by Rs 400 per tola today
Gold prices decreased by Rs 400 per tola in the domestic market today. As reported by the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been revised to Rs 137,200 per tola, while standard gold is currently trading at Rs 136,550 per tola. The price of fine gold was Rs 137,600 per tola, while standard gold was traded at Rs 136,950 per tola on Sunday.
Australian group commits to building luxury resort at Rara Lake
An Australian Expert Group has pledged to invest in the development of a luxury resort in the picturesque surroundings of Rara Lake, Nepal’s largest freshwater lake. The agreement was formalized during the ongoing Third Nepal Investment Summit in Kathmandu. Representatives from the Australian Expert Group, Badri Aryal, and Sanjeev Sharma, joined Abhishek Bikram Shah of Rara Holdings Resort Pvt. Ltd in signing the agreement.
NEPSE witnesses nominal rise, two companies increase by 10 percent
There hasn’t been any significant fluctuation in the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) today, as the stock market grew by 0.7 percent today. NEPSE, which had risen by double digits yesterday, increased by 0.07 percent today, reaching 1,980.34 points. Today, shares of finance and development bank groups saw a high increase, while shares of hotel, hydropower, investment, insurance, production, other, and trading groups saw a decrease.
