Earthquake jolts Kalikot
An earthquake struck Kalikot last night. The tremor, measuring 3.7 in magnitude, occurred at 11:37 PM on Friday, with its epicenter located near Lali in Kalikot.
The National Seismological Center reported that since the beginning of the month of the Nepali month of Poush, seven earthquakes have occurred across six districts in western Nepal.
In the past 13 days alone, western Nepal has experienced these tremors.
RSP leaders sought support from Kathmandu Mayor after Rabi Lamichhane’s arrest
Following the arrest of Rabi Lamichhane on October 18 in connection with a cooperative fraud case, leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) reportedly approached Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah for help.
RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti admitted during a press briefing on Friday that he had met with Mayor Shah, stating the discussions were part of broader efforts to unite transformative forces for national development.
“We are holding dialogues and discussions with those who support change. This is part of a regular process to build consensus and raise public awareness,” Burlakoti said.
Janakpur Bolts celebrate NPL victory with trophy parade across Madhesh Province
The players of the inaugural Nepal Premier League (NPL) champions, Janakpur Bolts, participated in a grand trophy parade in Mahottari today as part of their victory celebration across Madhesh Province.
The team, which commenced its celebratory journey from Janakpurdham in Dhanusha on Friday, received an overwhelming welcome from the residents of Matihani.
The Mayor of Matihani Municipality, Hari Prasad Mandal, along with local representatives and residents, greeted the players with flower garlands and traditional dosallas.
The players paraded the trophy through the streets of Matihani, receiving cheers and admiration from the crowd.
14,308 students graduate at TU’s 50th convocation
A total of 14,308 students graduated from Tribhuvan University (TU) during its 50th convocation ceremony held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor.
Prime Minister and TU Chancellor KP Sharma Oli personally presented certificates to students who achieved the highest marks and completed their doctoral studies.
This year’s graduates included 9,068 undergraduate students, 5,055 postgraduate students, 63 MPhil students, and 122 PhD scholars, according to TU Examination Controller Pushparaj Joshi.
Decades-old dispute over Tinkune land predates Balen’s tenure
Despite being under government acquisition for over 50 years, the dispute surrounding the Tinkune land in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32 remains unresolved.
On Friday, Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah criticized the government’s inaction during his address at the Koteshwar Festival.
He described the situation as a long-standing injustice where locals have neither received compensation nor seen any development on the seized land.
Ghanshyam Bhusal invites Bhim Rawal to Unified Socialist, calls Oli an authoritarian
CPN-Unified Socialist General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal criticized the leadership of the CPN-UML and its Chairperson KP Sharma Oli during a program in Kathmandu on Saturday, alleging that Oli’s leadership style is authoritarian and divisive.
Bhusal claimed that Bhim Rawal was expelled from the UML for questioning Oli’s leadership.
He accused Oli of perceiving critics as enemies while favoring those who flatter him.
“It would be beneficial for Oli to step down from party leadership, as his strategies have consistently failed in the current political landscape,” Bhusal said, urging Rawal to join the Unified Socialist party.
