NC President remembers PL Singh as an untiring democratic icon



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba paid tribute to former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, PL Singh, describing him as an unwavering democratic icon of Nepal.

Speaking at a condolence gathering organized by the NC District Working Committee, Kathmandu, on the 13th day of Singh’s passing, Deuba highlighted Singh’s exceptional public relations and his popularity among his contemporaries.

“Dedicated to democratic ideals and practices, the late Singh not only served Ganesh Man Singh’s family but also the entire people of Kathmandu with sincerity and commitment,” said Deuba.

He urged party leaders and cadres to emulate Singh’s devotion and integrity in their work.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, also lauded Singh’s unwavering adherence to democratic values, describing them as core to his political beliefs.

Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, highlighted the importance of learning from Singh’s dedicated service to the democratic cause.

Former NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitauala recalled Singh’s pivotal role in advocating for people’s rights and his leadership during critical struggles.

Other leaders, including Rajendra KC, Sabuj Krishna Baniya, Bhinsen Das Pradhan, Gokarna KC, and Jivan Dangol, praised Singh’s skill in expanding the party’s organization and his strength in connecting with people.

During Singh’s tenure as Mayor, Kathmandu Municipality was declared a Metropolitan City on December 15, 1995, marking a significant milestone under his leadership.
