Supreme Court halts Nepal Olympic Committee election

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to halt the election of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), which was scheduled for today.

The decision was made by a single bench of Justice Sharanga Subedi on Thursday, following a writ petition filed by Kamal Bahadur Chitrakar.

The court also issued a show-cause notice to the NOC regarding the election process.

The petition raised concerns over the amendment of the NOC’s statute, which was conducted in violation of a prior order from the Patan High Court.

The NOC, under the leadership of Jeevan Ram Shrestha, had amended its statute and proceeded to announce the election date.

While the chairman and vice-chairman positions were set to be contested, other posts had already been filled unopposed.
