Floods and landslides claim 49 lives in Nepal

KATHMANDU: As heavy rains continue to batter the country, the death toll from floods and landslides has risen to 49, with 40 people reported missing.

In the Kathmandu Valley alone, 32 fatalities have been confirmed across the districts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur.

Joint Spokesperson of Nepal Police, SSP Bishwo Adhikari, stated that 34 individuals have sustained injuries due to the severe weather.

Major highways have been damaged in at least 44 locations, leading to significant disruptions in transportation.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with more than 1,000 individuals rescued from the disaster-affected areas.

In the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts, 17 people have been reported injured, while 12 remain missing.

The Armed Police Force has urged one and all in need of emergency assistance to contact the hotline at 1114.
