Govt announces compensation for families affected by floods and landslides
In response to the tragic loss of life from recent floods and landslides caused by continuous rains, the government has announced plans to provide compensation and relief to the affected families.
During a meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister Prakashman Singh at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar, it was decided to compensate the families of those who lost their lives in the disasters.
Floods, landslides claim 75 lives across Nepal
The death toll from the floods and landslides caused by relentless rain since Thursday night has risen to 75.
According to the latest reports from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, 34 of these fatalities have occurred in the Kathmandu Valley alone.
In addition to the deceased, 34 people have lost their lives in other districts of Bagmati Province, while 21 individuals remain missing across three districts in the Kathmandu Valley. The floods have also left 15 people injured.
Floods and inundation make Kathmandu Valley chaotic
Life in the Kathmandu Valley was severely disrupted today by continuous rain over the past two days.
In Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, some individuals lost their lives due to floods and landslides, with many still missing.
Hundreds of settlements across these three districts have been inundated, leaving numerous citizens trapped in the floodwaters.
Rivers and streams, including the Bagmati, Bishnumati, Manohara, and Dhobikhola, have overflowed since yesterday.
KMC deploys 17 police teams for rain disaster response
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) mobilized 17 teams of city police to address the disaster caused by continuous rain.
A total of 300 personnel engaged in managing the situation in the capital.
Balen Shah, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolis, stated that the teams focused on minimizing loss of life and property in vulnerable areas, including flooded settlements, riverbanks, and roads obstructed by fallen trees.
3 out of four swept away by Nakkhu River flood rescued
Three of the four people who were swept away by the flood in Lalitpur’s Nakkhu River were rescued.
The local Purna KC has said that after rescuing them, they were sent to Patan Hospital for treatment.
They were sitting on the roof of a makeshift shelter on the bank of the river, waiting for rescue, they were swept away by the flood.
They were swept away by the Nakhkhu River near Kantipur Colony in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-14, Nakhipot.
Koshi River above danger level at 10 stations, Bagmati at 6 stations
Heavy monsoon rains caused rivers across Nepal to surge beyond danger levels, leading to widespread floods.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, rivers in 20 different places crossed their danger marks, while water levels in 13 additional areas rose above the alert level.
The Koshi River was particularly affected reaching danger levels in 10 locations.
Bhotekoshi River washes away Larcha bridge, disrupting Tatopani access
The Bhotekoshi River, flowing under the Araniko Highway, has washed away the Larcha Bridge in Sindhupalchok.
The bridge, located in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, collapsed on Saturday morning, cutting off access to Tatopani.
With the water level of the Bhotekoshi River continuing to rise, nearby areas including Tatopani and Bahrabise, along with other coastal regions, remain at high risk of flooding.
Mechi Highway obstructed as flood washes away bailey bridge
Flood on Hewa rivulet has swept away a bailey bridge along the Mechi Highway following the incessant rainfall.
Chairperson of Phidim municipality-4, Upendra Lawati, said the bailey bridge was washed away by the flood.
The bailey bridge was constructed here after the flood on the rivulet swept away the bridge on June 17, 2023.
