Three cases of Cholera detected in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Three individuals from the Kalimati area in Kathmandu have tested positive for cholera, according to the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku.

The patients are currently receiving treatment at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital.

Dr. Arjun Sapkota, Chief of the Health Office in Kathmandu, stated that a team has been mobilized to investigate the spread of the bacteria-borne disease and ensure it does not spread further.

Earlier, seven cases of cholera were reported in a correction center in Lalitpur.

The outbreak may have been caused by the consumption of contaminated water following recent monsoon rains.

It is also notable that polio was detected a few days ago at Teku, near the confluence of the Tukucha rivulet and the Bagmati River in the Kathmandu Valley.

Doctors have urged the public to maintain proper hygiene and ensure the consumption of clean drinking water.

Symptoms of cholera include diarrhea, nausea, dehydration, yellow urine, and sunken eyes. If not treated promptly, cholera can be fatal.
