Republicanism is beyond politics: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized that a republic system transcends mere politics; it embodies a way of life.

On the occasion of Republic Day, PM Prachanda conveyed his best wishes, underlining that the essence of a republic extends beyond governance to permeate all facets of society.

He asserted that a republic entails not only exercising one’s rights but also respecting the rights of others, while emphasizing that it encompasses local autonomy and the right to self-determination.

The PM affirmed the government’s commitment to distributing the benefits of this system among citizens and reiterated its role in guiding the nation towards prosperity, grounded in the principles of socialism enshrined in the constitution.

Moreover, PM Prachanda highlighted that the federal republic system has firmly established democratic norms and values, ensuring a competitive multiparty democratic setup, civic freedoms, fundamental and human rights, periodic elections, press freedom, an independent judiciary, and the rule of law.

He further outlined ongoing efforts towards policy, legal, and structural reforms aimed at ensuring that the dividends of this system reach the grassroots level.

PM Dahal also extended heartfelt condolences to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in various political movements and struggles, acknowledging their contributions to the nation’s journey towards democracy and republicanism.
