Hearing on Sandeep Lamichhane’s case postponed again

KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court has postponed the hearing on cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s alleged rape case on Sunday.

Although the case was scheduled for a hearing in the division bench of Judges Dhir Bahadur Chand and Chandramani Gyawali, the hearing did not take place today.

The court placed the case on the ‘not to be heard’ list.

Lamichhane moved the Patan High Court challenging the Kathmandu District Court’s decision to impose an 8-year prison sentence in a rape case.

The Kathmandu District Court had convicted Sandeep, imposing an 8-year imprisonment term, a fine of 3 lakh rupees, and a compensation of 2 lakh rupees.

The Kathmandu District Court had based its conviction on allegations of coercion, asserting that Sandeep exploited the victim’s financial situation and exerted undue influence.

Contrary to the district court’s findings, Sandeep’s application to the High Court contends that there is no substantiated evidence supporting the financial coercion mentioned in the verdict.

Sandeep claims that the district court’s assertion of a demand or offer of financial transactions lacks foundation.
