Home Minister Lamichhane bans deployment of police personnel in civil dress

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has issued a directive to the Police Headquarters prohibiting the deployment of police personnel in civil attire.

Minister Lamichhane’s decision comes amidst allegations of police personnel engaging in misconduct while in civilian clothing.

Citing emerging complaints regarding the involvement of police personnel in irresponsible activities while in plainclothes, the Home Minister issued the directive on Thursday.

In compliance with the Minister’s directive, the Police Headquarters has communicated the order to all seven provincial offices.

Furthermore, the Headquarters has reassigned the responsibilities of officers currently deployed in civilian attire, with the exception of those engaged in investigations under the Crime Investigation Department.
