By-election Update : Final voter list to be published on April 4

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the final voter list for the upcoming by-elections will be published on April 4.The by-elections for a House of Representatives member from Ilam-2 and a Provincial Assembly member from Bajhang-1 (1) are scheduled for April 27. According to EC spokesperson Shaligram Paudel, the approved schedule includes the publication of an updated voter list on the commission’s website on March 1.

Maoist Center affirms candidacy in NA Chair election

Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, reiterated the party’s commitment to contesting the upcoming election for the post of Chairman of the National Assembly. Speaking at the Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday, Chairman Dahal affirmed the party’s intention to vie for the prestigious position. During Tuesday’s meeting, party leaders had urged Chairman Dahal to assert the party’s claim for the chairmanship.

Deputy General Secretary Sharma voices discontent over Maoist Center Chair Dahal’s task allocation

Deputy General Secretary of the CPN-Maoist Center, Janardan Sharma, has expressed his disagreement with Prime Minister and Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ regarding the allocation of tasks within the party. Sharma conveyed his dissent in writing to Party Chairman Dahal on Wednesday during the Standing Committee (SC) meeting held at the party headquarters in Parisdanda, Kathmandu.

UML Chair Oli demands Minister Jwala’s immediate resignation

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has sought immediate resignation of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala in light of the damning findings against him by the government’s probe committee. Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Wednesday, UML Chairman Oli expressed his dismay, stating that while it is shameful for Minister Jwala to be found guilty, it is equally disgraceful for the government to overlook ethical considerations.

Preparations underway for EPG report reception: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has confirmed that preparations are in progress to receive the report from the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on Nepal-India relations. During a meeting of the National Concern and Coordination Committee under the National Assembly today, the Prime Minister stated that internal preparations have been initiated to coordinate the simultaneous receipt of the report from both countries.

Chinese national, suspected to be Hundi dealer, arrested in Kathmandu

A 28-year-old Chinese national, Zhou Jiao has been arrested at the Lazimpat area in Kathmandu, police said. The arrest was made on the grounds of suspicions regarding illegal “Hundi” trading. Zhou, holding passport number EJ 7279051, was taken into custody by the police.

Kathmandu among top three most polluted cities for air quality

Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, has been identified as the third most polluted city worldwide in terms of air quality, according to recent data. The current air quality in Kathmandu has been classified as unhealthy, with PM2.5 levels reaching 178 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3) as of 9:45 am this morning, as reported by IQ AirVisual, a Swiss organization specializing in global air-quality data.

Maoist Center appoints province in-charges

The ruling CPN-Maoist Center has designated leaders to oversee the party’s activities in various provinces. In a Standing Committee (SC) meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Parisdanda, the responsibilities for province in-charges and co-in-charges were finalized. Haribol Gajurel has been appointed as the Koshi Province in-charge, with Sabitra Kumar Kafle serving as the co-in-charge. Leelamani Pokharel will oversee Madhes Province, assisted by Bishow Nath Shah as co-in-charge.

Sindhupalchowk police arrested Sharmila Waiba, a self-proclaimed social activist from Bahrabise, on Wednesday in connection with a case involving assault. The arrest was made in Bahrabise after the Kathmandu police received information about Waiba’s presence in Sindhupalchowk.

The first-of-its-kind of pediatric cancer and hematology specialist service has begun in Sudurpaschim. The Mahendranagar-based Mahakali provincial hospital has started delivering pediatric cancer care specialized service in Sudurpaschim. Pediatric cancer and hematology specialist Dr Ichha Dhakal started the service at the hospital.
