Suspended MP Rabi Lamichhane’s statement resumes in court

KATHMANDU: The statement of Rabi Lamichhane, the Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and a suspended Member of Parliament, resumed today following the filing of charges against him.

Lamichhane, who was arrested in connection with a cooperative fraud case, appeared for his statement at the Kaski District Court on Friday.

According to Court Information Officer Suraj Adhikari, Lamichhane’s statement began today after it was partially recorded on Thursday during a two-hour session presided over by Judge Nitij Rai.

During the session, the former Home Minister refuted all allegations leveled against him, maintaining his denial as he did earlier with the police and government attorneys.

Earlier in the week, Lamichhane was taken to court on Monday and Tuesday, but his statement could not proceed due to scheduling delays. Meanwhile, he has been suspended from his position as a federal parliamentarian.

On Tuesday, after concluding the statement of former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and former Vice Chairperson of Gorkha Media, Chhavilal Joshi, the court began recording the statement of another defendant, Leela Pachhai.

Joshi’s statement, which focused on charges of cooperative fraud, money laundering, and organized crime, was completed under the supervision of Judge Nitiz Rai. Following this, the court shifted its attention to Pachhai.

The Kaski District Court will determine whether Lamichhane and others will be released on bail or face custody until trial, based on the conclusion of the hearings.
