T20 WC: South Africa dominate Afghanistan to reach final

TRINIDAD: South Africa surged into the T20 World Cup 2024 final, on the brink of claiming their maiden World Cup title after an emphatic victory over Afghanistan.

In a one-sided semifinal clash at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday (June 27), Aiden Markram’s South Africa continued their unbeaten streak, routing Afghanistan by nine wickets.

South Africa’s journey to the final marks their first-ever appearance in the pinnacle match of a T20 World Cup, buoyed by eight consecutive wins in the tournament.

Their dominant performance saw Afghanistan collapsing to just 56 runs in 11.4 overs, setting a new low for a semifinal in T20 World Cup history.

Afghanistan, experiencing their inaugural semifinal in an ICC tournament, faltered under pressure as South African bowlers dismantled their batting lineup early on.

Jansen’s early strikes left Afghanistan reeling at five wickets down for 23 runs within the powerplay, marking a historic collapse in T20 World Cup semifinal history.

With this resounding victory, South Africa now eyes the ultimate prize, aiming to etch their name in cricketing history with a championship title at stake.
