SC hearing on petition against Home Minister Lamichhane and Attorney General Pokharel on Wednesday

KATHMANDU: A hearing on the petition to annul the letter from the Attorney General’s Office, which stated that there were no complaints or prosecutions against Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane regarding cooperative fraud, is scheduled at the Supreme Court for Wednesday.

SC joint spokesperson, Govinda Ghimire, informed that the case has been scheduled for Wednesday after the petition was registered at the Supreme Court.

On May 6, the Attorney General’s Office issued a letter stating that there were no complaints or allegations of embezzlement related to cooperative funds against Minister Lamichhane.

The letter mentioned that, upon investigation in Rupandehi, Kaski, and Chitwan, no complaints or allegations were found against Lamichhane, nor was there any evidence of investigation or prosecution.

Advocate Anupam Bhattarai filed a petition against this letter at the Supreme Court.

However, the Chief Registrar of the Court had dismissed his petition. Bhattarai then filed another petition at the Supreme Court against this dismissal.

Bhattarai has sought an interim order to relieve Home Minister Lamichhane from his post until the investigation on cooperatives fraud is completed.

Last Wednesday, a bench of Supreme Court Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana ordered the registration of Advocate Bhattarai’s petition.

In his petition, Bhattarai questioned the validity of the letter from the Attorney General’s Office.

He named Home Minister Lamichhane and Attorney General Dinmani Pokharel as defendants in the case.
