KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress, the major opposition party, has raised concerns over the government’s recent proposal to introduce ordinances, urging it to refrain from weakening the role of parliament.

In a press statement issued by the parliamentary party office, the NC expressed apprehension about the government’s decision to amend crucial laws directly via ordinances, bypassing the parliamentary process.

The NC argued that despite having ample time and opportunities for legislative deliberations, the abrupt termination of the parliamentary session was unjustified.

The party further criticized the government for neglecting its demand to establish a parliamentary probe committee to address the issues faced by cooperative victims.

It emphasized the necessity of investigating the misuse and embezzlement of funds deposited by hundreds of thousands of people.

The NC denounced the government’s interpretation of constitutional provisions regarding ordinances, citing the pretext of an investment summit as insufficient justification for their issuance.

NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekha condemned the government’s actions, labeling them as contrary to parliamentary norms and democratic principles.
