Deputy PM Shrestha emphasizes significance of Chinese assistance for Nepal’s prosperity



KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha underscored the crucial role of Chinese assistance in Nepal’s economic prosperity, highlighting the enduring partnership between Nepal and China as a key pillar for infrastructure development in the country.

DPM Shrestha conveyed these sentiments during the ‘Silk Road Youth Forum,’ a collaborative event organized by Silk Road International Think Tank Exchange Centre, the Sino-Nepal Media Society, and the World Sinology Centre at Beijing Language and Culture University, held in Kathmandu today.

He noted that the construction of roads, bridges, and energy projects has not only strengthened connectivity between Nepal and China but has also fostered regional cooperation and unity.

DPM Shrestha emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges as significant means to enhance bilateral ties.

“Common cultural heritages and age-old traditions serve as a solid foundation for forging understanding,” he reiterated.

DPM Shrestha praised the exemplary socioeconomic relations between Nepal and China, emphasizing their mutual contributions to sustainable development and inclusive growth.

He acknowledged China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiatives’ (BRI) as a pivotal mechanism shaping South Asia’s economic landscape, emphasizing connectivity, infrastructure development, economic cooperation, and the exploration of new potential in the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the Nepal-China relations as grounded in ancient and traditional respect, understanding, and cooperation. He affirmed China’s steadfast commitment to assisting in Nepal’s socio-economic development.

On the occasion, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Xie Yu, emphasized the friendship, mutual trust, and strategic partnership as the basis of Nepal-China relations.

Similarly, Deputy Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi in Bhaktapur, Bijay Krishna Shrestha, expressed eagerness to welcome Chinese tourists, stating that Madhyapur Thimi was being developed as a tourist destination.
