Chartered aircraft from China arrives in Pokhara Airport for Dragon Boat Race 2024

KATHMANDU: A chartered aircraft from China carrying officials, media personnel, and competitors for the upcoming International Dragon Boat Race 2024 landed at Pokhara International Airport at 9:45 am on Thursday.

The participants are set to compete in the second edition of the Dragon Boat Festival, which will kick off this Sunday.

A special dinner in honor of the participants will be hosted at the Pokhara on Saturday evening by the organizing committee.

A total of 20 teams are participating, including 11 from Nepal, 8 from China, and one from Singapore.

The competition will feature two race distances: 200 meters and 500 meters.

Winners in both categories will receive cash prizes with first place receiving USD 5,000, second place receiving USD 2,000 and third place receiving USD 1,200. The remaining 17 teams will be awarded USD 500 each.

The International Dragon Boat Race 2024 will officially begin at Lakeside, Pokhara, on Sunday. The schedule includes a 200-meter straight race at 9:45 am followed by a 500-meter race at 11:45 am.

On Monday, the 200-meter semifinals will take place at 9:30 am, with the finals at 10:00 am.

The 500-meter semifinals will be held at 10:30 am, followed by the finals at 11:15 am, and the awards ceremony at 12:45 pm.
