Petroleum exploration in Dailekh nears completion



KATHMANDU: The exploration of petroleum products in Dailekh has reached its final stage, with only 70 meters of drilling left to be completed.

As of Wednesday, the Department of Mines and Geology reported that 3,930 meters of drilling work has been accomplished in the Jaljale area of Bhairabi Rural Municipality.

Drilling operations began on May 10 and are on track to conclude within this month, informed Ganesh Nath Tripathi, Chief of the Department’s petroleum project.

The initial phase of the project included a series of surveys, such as seismic, geological, magnetotelluric, and geochemical sampling, all of which were completed on schedule.

The project, supported by a Rs 2.5 billion grant from the Chinese government, is being carried out collaboratively by the Department of Mines and Geology, China Geological Survey, and Cibu Drilling Engineering Company.

A workforce of 80, comprising both Nepali and Chinese professionals, is engaged in the excavation on 45 ropanis of acquired land in Jaljale.
