RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane to be brought to Kathmandu on Wednesday or Thursday

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who has been in custody at the Kaski District Police Office since October 19, will now be brought to Kathmandu on Wednesday or Thursday for questioning in connection with the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case.

Lamichhane was initially scheduled to be flown to Kathmandu on Tuesday morning for his statement regarding the alleged embezzlement at the cooperative in Kalimati. However, citing bad weather and other reasons, the police postponed the transfer.

RSP leader Deepak Bohora stated that police have now indicated Lamichhane will be sent to Kathmandu either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

Earlier, a flight on Buddha Air had been booked for Tuesday morning at 8:30, but the plan was delayed. The decision to bring him to Kathmandu comes after the Kaski District Court on Sunday granted permission for an additional 15 days of custody for investigation.

After his statement in Kathmandu, Lamichhane is expected to be returned to Pokhara, and later taken to Chitwan for questioning in connection with another cooperative fraud case involving Sahakari Savings and Credit Cooperative.

Previously, he had given a statement in Rupandehi regarding alleged embezzlement at Supreme Cooperative.

Lamichhane was arrested on October 19 from the RSP central office in Banasthali, Kathmandu, by a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

He faces charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.
