KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing a broader concept of social security.

In a message marking the 7th Social Security Day, PM Oli stated that the government is actively working to implement the social security scheme in a more organized and systematic manner.

“Today, no citizen in the country should feel the absence of protection or guardianship. The State and government are committed to ensuring the welfare of all citizens,” PM Oli emphasized.

The Prime Minister highlighted that social justice and dignity are central to the government’s vision of prosperity.

He assured that the government’s actions reflect its dedication to the well-being of the people, with no one being left to face helplessness.

He further reminded that social security has been enshrined as a fundamental right of citizens in the Constitution.

“In line with this broader concept of social security, the government is preparing an action plan, along with relevant programs and budget allocations, and is enforcing these measures accordingly,” PM Oli clarified.

The Prime Minister also recalled that it was the government led by the CPN-UML that launched the social security scheme in 2051 BS, which introduced monthly allowances for senior citizens, single women, and vulnerable populations.

He pointed out that this initiative laid the foundation for a welfare state characterized by social justice and equality.

“In our journey toward the present state, we have come to understand social security as an integral part of social life, state governance, and social engineering,” PM Oli noted.

He added that the recent introduction of a contribution-based social security scheme reflects a growing recognition of the individual’s role in the broader social security framework.
