Prachanda questions: Why were ruling party leaders linked to cooperative fraud not investigated?



KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Chair of the CPN Maoist Centre, has expressed concern over the failure to bring leaders from the Nepali Congress and CPN UML who were found guilty in the co-operative fraud case into the investigation.

Addressing a warning assembly held on Saturday at Exhibition Road in Kathmandu, Dahal stated that it is politically discriminatory and biased to arrest only opposition leader Ravi Lamichhane while not bringing Congress and UML leaders, who have been found guilty by parliamentary committees, into the investigative fold.

Claiming that when he was Prime Minister, he directed the state apparatus to arrest him if he was found on a list of wrongdoers, Dahal said, “Our clear stance is that no guilty person should be spared, and no innocent person should be implicated.”

Dahal also noted that some have incorrectly interpreted the Maoist warning assembly as a gathering to protect Ravi Lamichhane, the Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), asserting that all guilty parties must face punishment.

He mentioned recent reports indicating that the government is preparing to privatize public institutions, stating that if even one industry is sold to intermediaries, it would not be in the interest of the Nepali people.
