Coalition govt is heading towards autocracy: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has raised concerns over the unchecked behavior exhibited by the coalition government, warning that it indicates a slide towards autocracy.

Addressing a program organized by the Press Union in Kathmandu on Sunday, Thapa highlighted the worrisome behavior displayed by the coalition government. He emphasized that such conduct poses a threat to the hard-earned achievements of the nation.

“Our protests against the government’s behavior signify our concerns. The unchecked behavior observed within the current coalition is undemocratic,” remarked the NC General Secretary.

Thapa stressed the importance of maintaining press freedom, stating that the press serves as the cornerstone of democracy and should not be subjected to control.

He also criticized the government’s attempts to control opposition voices in parliament and suppress external inquiries.

“Controlling opposition voices in parliament, suppressing external inquiries— if the media is controlled based on the content they publish, it raises serious questions about our direction,” Thapa asserted.
