Oli’s arrogance will lead to his downfall: Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU: Chairman of ruling coalition partner Unified Socialist Party, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has intensified his criticism towards CPN-UML Chairman, KP Sharma Oli.

Chairman Nepal displayed unmistakable disdain at a program in Kathmandu on Friday.

The former Prime Minister asserted that the losses suffered in the 2079 BS elections were a consequence of the arrogance exhibited by leaders, despite the substantial votes garnered in 2074 BS.

He lamented the squandered potential of the votes accrued by the Communist Party in 2074 BS, attributing it to the UML’s targeting of Chairman Oli.

“Some leaders’ (Oli) arrogant attitude will lead to his downfall,” he added.

“We obtained nearly two-thirds majority in 2074 BS. Utilizing it effectively would have eased our path in 2079 BS,” he remarked, highlighting the hubris prevalent among leaders.

Drawing parallels, Chairman Nepal invoked the demise of Hitler, the tyrant of Germany, due to his own pride.

He emphasized the imperative of responsibly wielding power bestowed by the people.

Furthermore, Chairman Nepal contended that besides the Communists, no other political faction possesses the capability to effectuate societal change in Nepal.

He advocated against complacency within the communist ranks, urging for an embrace of change and cautioning against the allure of power.

“Upon ascending to power, one must remain humble,” he cautioned, adding, “Indulging in power recklessly may invite unforeseen repercussions.”

Chairman Nepal rebuffed claims of Oli’s failure during the republican movement, reaffirming the significance of his role during the historic upheaval.

Taking a swipe at Oli, he remarked, “Some thought achieving a republic through a movement was akin to taking a bullock cart to America. It was our concerted efforts that propelled the Nepali Congress into the movement, garnering widespread support.”
